Get to know us

At Qhali Kay, the environment is not a mere backdrop; it is our most powerful clinical agent. We have designed a sanctuary of absolute isolation and peace in the heights of the Andes, where rustic luxury architecture surrenders to the immensity of the mountain. Here, far from digital noise and corporate fatigue, we offer you a safe space to surrender, where deep silence and the purity of the air act in synergy to reprogram your nervous system and restore your original state of health.

The Soul of Chiquintad and Cuenca: Culture, Tradition, and Mysticism

Located 12 kilometers from Cuenca, where the inter-Andean valley meets the high moorlands (páramos), the parish of Chiquintad is a territory forged by centuries of interaction with an imposing geography. This land is proudly recognized as the "Cradle of the Cholas Cuencanas," an iconic figure representing Andean mestizaje, the strength of working women, and community resilience. Life here is sustained by millennial principles of reciprocity, such as the minga—a collective effort that binds the community together and strengthens its unbreakable bond with nature.

The very name of Chiquintad holds an ancestral mystery. For some, it comes from the Quechua "Ruins of Fire," evoking a history of resilience and rebuilding from the ashes. For others, it has Cañari roots that describe it as a place of dense clouds and climatic mysticism. This rich heritage is reflected in its imposing Church of San Marcial, built in the early 20th century through the efforts of its inhabitants, fusing Baroque and Neoclassical styles with a blue that seeks to emulate the Andean sky.

Oral tradition endows this landscape with a vibrant soul. The mountains and waters that surround us are the settings of centuries-old legends, such as that of Yanacocha Lagoon, whose crystal-clear waters turned dark after hiding treasures thrown into it during the conquest, and where it is said a mermaid and a golden bull reside. Or the story of Mama Rumualda, a rock formation in the heights that, according to the elders, is the face of a woman petrified for her lack of kindness, serving as an eternal reminder of the importance of compassion and solidarity.

The Environment: Nature as a Catalyst

At over 3,000 meters above sea level, the Andean ecosystem of Chiquintad offers immediate physiological benefits. The pure, cold mountain air, along with the vital presence of the Machángara River, transforms the climate into a catalyst for biological repair. Walking through these landscapes not only delights the eyes but also oxygenates the blood, stimulates the metabolism, and facilitates profound environmental detoxification, allowing you to honor the natural circadian rhythms that modern life has disrupted.

Facilities: Architecture for Healing

Every space at Qhali Kay is intentionally designed to facilitate your inner journey. We feature a traditional Temazcal (sweat lodge), a ritual space where extreme heat allows your body and memory to dialogue with the Earth for deep purification. Furthermore, our facilities include dedicated areas for Sound Healing, equipped with Tibetan bowls and gongs to stabilize your nervous system, serene spaces for meditation and restorative yoga practice, and hydrotherapy and holistic massage rooms focused on releasing the chronic tension from your muscles.

Accommodation: Sensory Privacy and Thermoregulation

Our private cabins (designed for 1 to 3 people) redefine luxury through organic comfort and absolute privacy. We reject the acoustic pollution of mechanical heating systems to offer you the true "luxury of silence." Thermal comfort is managed through passive architecture and the use of high-density thermal textiles. By embracing the natural mountain climate and avoiding constant artificial heat, we promote the natural production of melatonin, ensuring impeccable regulation of your sleep cycles and unsurpassed restorative rest.
